The Life of Chuck Tabaka

April 19, 1988 saw Charles Lee Tabaka enter our world.  As a youngster we all called him Charlie but he always preferred Chuck.  Chuck was never the kid you forgot.  His high level energy drove his parents, teachers, and siblings crazy.  But in the end we all commented that it was that same energy , that same intensity, that made Chuck unforgettable.

He served well as a little brother,  a loving and caring son and Grandson, a well liked nephew, and a proud and loving uncle.  Chuck was always great around kids They always gravitated toward him.

Chuck had a thirst for knowledge beyond the formal classroom.  He was an expert in history, a rising star in the martial arts, and a damn good guitarist.  In the matter of a few short years he learned bass guitar, drop tuned six string electric, acoustic, and his "baby" a seven string Schecter.  He would also reach brown belt in Tae Kwon Do and earn trophies in Sparring and Forms competitions.

He made friends easily and was extremely loyal.  If you were his "Bud"  he had your back no matter what.   It was during these friendships that  Chuck experimented with drugs.  Like so many young people it was a pitfall he didn't avoid.  In the dark  hours of the morning of July 8, 2007 Chuck was forever silenced by an overdose of Methadone.  He didn't fully understand the dangers involved.  As the sun rose on another unusually warm July day it became clear that something had gone terribly wrong.  One by one we all learned the tragic truth.

Chuck's guitars will never see his talented hands again in this life. With his passing it sometimes seems that someone shut the loud music  off.  With that said, it's too damn quiet.  We miss you Chuck.

Mission Statement

Our goal, through the Charles Tabaka Memorial fund, is to create more awareness on the dangers of substance abuse in the Central Wisconsin area. Substance abuse isn’t always about overdose. Both can be devastating to the families in which they occur. We plan to create this awareness by giving scholarships to area students accepted into a two or four year college or Technical school. Each year, in order to earn the scholarships, we will ask for the students to help us by creating essays or posters on the subject of substance abuse. The rules for each year's challenge will be posted in the schools where the scholarships are offered. We would also like to assist and support programs that promote substance abuse awareness in our communities such as S.A.D.D. , M.A. D. D. and D.A.R.E. just to name a few. Too many lives are taken too early due to substance abuse. We believe it is important for the subject matter to be brought out into the open. Through education and awareness we can all build a better tomorrow.
